Agriculture is an art and science of raising crops and growing animals for benefit of man with the use of natural resources such as water, soil and vegetation. For many years, relation between agriculture and environment remained stabled. However, this relationship got disturbed or upset, due to agricultural exploitation resulted on degradation of environment and natural resources. The major natural resources available to man are water and land with the connection of soil, plants and animals. The existence of man depended on agriculture. Most of the food comes to man from land and animals. Animals are also depended on plants for their existence. So adequate water is required from rain fall, ground water and springs to plant production. Water is essential to all life. Development of water supply should, however be undertaken in such a way as to preserve the hydrological balance and the biological functions of all ecosystems. This is crucial for marginal lands.
MANUVIKASA is making effort to harvest the water through proper usage of surface and seepage water. Initially MANUVIKASA is developing tanks with the whole investment by the organization and now community is realizing the importance of the water harvesting structure and people are contributing the 60% of the total cost of the project. MANUVIKASA is scaling up this activity with the collaboration of Deshpande Foundation.
